Umbra Concept Store
Known for their original and modern homeware, Umbra reunited Figure3 and Kohn Shnier Architects to bring to life their first retail store. Located in the heart of Toronto’s Queen West shopping district, the duo revitalized an aging building into a striking, on-brand shopping experience; expertly capturing Umbra’s design-driven philosophy.
Using the same award-winning direction taken for Umbra’s chic world headquarters, the 1950’s building was retrofitted into a bright and airy two-level retail store, reserving the third level for commercial office space.
Within the store, an interactive design centre invites customers to both watch as well as interact with the designers in the midst of developing products, while the gallery-like boutique positions iconic housewares as art objects. In a clever design twist, Figure3 re-invented Umbra table lamps to create over-scaled chandeliers featured throughout the inspirational retail destination.
